Just So Everyone Is Aware
I am always very reticent about making comments that suggest I should EVER get what I deserve. Having tempted fate, tomorrow morning, I scheduled to have a transesophageal echo [“TEE”] which is a special type of echocardiogram to ascertain if I have an embolus [as distinct from a thrombus -[ a thrombus is a blood clot that forms in a specific location within a blood vessel, like the deep veins in the legs, while an embolus is a floating blood clot- or other substance- that travels through the vessels of the body until it becomes stuck.] as a consequences of a cardioversion I underwent a week ago to correct an episode of atrial fibrillation [“afib”]. Assuming that there is no embolus, they may cardiovert me again, and send my ass home around lunchtime.
However, if they do identify an embolus, then they will attempt to either dissolve or stent the embolus through a catheterization procedure known as percutaneous thrombolysis which can take from several hours to a day to dissolve the clot. If they are unable to attack the embolus through the catheter, then it “dude yer getting a “chest crack” and a second full-on open heart surgery with a heart-lung by-pass know as an embolectomy which is a five to six-hour procedure. What are hoping isn’t the case is an open clot that would require a pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE) which is a life-threatening condition that requires complex surgery. The obvious concern here is any risk of acute kidney injury [“AKI”] as I had a renal transplant in June.
The simple reality is I don’t know what the verdict was until I wake up…the big clue with will be a ventilator jammed in my pie hole. I have absolutely no concern about what the conclusion is…the procedure is doing a Northwestern Memorial in Streeterville…I have prior experience with every single doctor that is part of my healthcare team, and I could find or pick better in the Midwest…period, end of discussion. Once again, my situation is substantially different from most people in that I understand everything that is going on, the bookshelf in my office that sees below should answer the “why” to that question.
Everything should be fine…but for “just in case”/
